People can be some of the hardest things to draw. This lesson started as a discussion about how to get beyond the basic "stick figure". I taught the students how to create movement in their simple gesture drawings by using diagonal lines. They spent a day drawing each other with lines and shapes. Next they selected a photograph to work from. I taught them how to check for proportion (size relationships) and how to add thickness once the gesture was finalized. They finished by adding color with chalk.

Thank you for taking the time and energy to create this blog, Mrs. Wyse! I get a kick out of seeing all of the amazing works of art that happen each day at Thurston. Thanks, too, for beautifying the halls with the art. :)
